Idea: Google Map of Chicago events with time slider

The movies in the park calendar would be a lot more useful if you knew which movies were playing in parks near you.  You can do a search for park names, but many people don’t know of the names of their nearby parks, not to mention that it’s a pain in the ass.

Joe developed The Local Beet’s farmers’ market locator, which is a step in the right direction.  Then at least you could see what was playing near you.

That got me to thinking: why not do a Google Maps mashup that displays the location of the Movies in the Park with a slider for date?  Or, even better, what if the map included all of the outdoor concerts, street festivals, block parties, and other Chicago events?  For that matter, why hasn’t Chicagoist or Gapers Block already done this for their event calendars?

This example of using the timemap javascript library looks promising.  This might be out of my reach, but it’s worth thinking about.
